Vero Voce will now be offering an intensive Writer's Workshop for new writers of the stage and screen, as well as a chance for experienced writers to bring in their current projects to be reviewed and studied with a fresh set of eyes. The Workshop will be led by David M. Rodriguez, resident Theatrical Artistic Director of Vero Voce.
David, who has had two of his plays produced in Los Angeles, hopes to give guidance and instruction to new writers in the Northwestern Suburbs. Members of the workshop will focus on proper story structure, full character development, and the basic rules of creative writing. Any writers who would like to continue their scripts into a production level may enter their pieces into Vero Voce's upcoming "New Playwright Festival" in early 2014. More info can be seen on the auditions page of our website.
Material is tailored to fit the student. Students can use their own monolog, or one will be supplied, which they will prepare for their mock audition. we will discuss and work on "sides" from plays. This course will touch on character development, scene study, staging, emotion, movement on stage, the use of props and the use of chairs to give greater impact of the audition.
Instruction will focus on making the strongest decisions possible, based on the information you've been given. Students will be instructed on proper attire for specific auditions and what is considered to be professionalism in the theater/film community.
The class will be led by Vero Voce's Dennis Brown. Dennis has been on the stage all over the world for 45 years and directed for 30 of those years.
This introductory course will focus on scene breakdown, character development, and the significance of proper blocking. Scenes will be presented to the students based on their strengths and weaknesses, per the instructor. The final class for the term will include a brief performance for an invited audience of family and friends.
